Rochefort is a Trappist beer brewed in Rochefort in the province of Namur in Belium. The first Rochefort beer was brewed around 1899. The production of a Trappist must lie 'within the fence of the monastery or very close to it' and 'the work must be done by monks themselves and/or by lay people who work for the monastery'. The income is not for profit and will only be used for the proper management of the enterprise, for social works and for the needs of the monastic community.
