Karmeliet is brewed by Brewery Bosteels in Buggenhout. It is served in an elegant beer glass decorated with a stylized French lily. This glass was designed by Antoine Bosteels, one of the brewery's managers. When one drinks the glass empty with the Carmelite emblem in the middle at the front, a line can be observed on the inside of the empty glass. Legend has it that if one still recognizes a more or less horizontal line (horizon) in this, a new Triple Carmelite may be poured out. The name Karmeliet was later, after the actual creation of the three-grain beer, linked to the Carmelites of Dendermonde who already brewed a three-grain beer in the early 17th century.
